- Pass the salesperson exam
- Must be employed by a supervising broker

- Minimum age of 18
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must have spent at least 2 years as an active, licensed salesperson
- Must complete at least 60 hours of pre-licensing education through an approved school
- Must complete the Experience Points requirement
- Pass the broker exam
- Apply for license
- Complete 8-hour Supervising Broker Course

- Complete 70 hours of pre-licensing education within 24 months of applying for license (For a list of approved schools and courses, utilize the “Approved Pre-Licensing Courses” link on the Montana Department of Labor and Industry website)
- Pass the salesperson exam (See below for more information)
- Become affiliated with a licensed broker who carries the Supervising Broker Endorsement
- Apply for license within 12 months of passing the exam

- Complete 60 hours of pre-licensing education within 18 months of applying for license (For a list of approved schools and courses, utilize the “Approved Pre-Licensing Courses” link on the Montana Department of Labor and Industry website)
- Pass the broker exam (See below for more information)
- Apply for license within 12 months of passing the exam (Make sure you completely fill out the Experience Points Sheet as well, which is included in the application)
- Obtain Supervising Broker Endorsement by taking the 8-hour Supervising Broker Course

Exam Info
Salesperson: The exam costs $106 and is administered on a computer in multiple choice format. There are 113 scored questions (80 national and 33 state law), and 5-10 pre-test questions that do not affect your score.
There is no distinction made between scored questions and pre-test questions on the exam. They are all mixed in together, so it is important that you answer each question carefully. You must achieve a score of at least 70% to pass. You will have 3 ½ hours to complete the exam.
Broker: The exam costs $106 and is administered on a computer in multiple choice format. There are 115 scored questions (75 national and 40 state law), and 5-10 pre-test questions that do not affect your score.
There is no distinction made between scored questions and pre-test questions on the exam. They are all mixed in together, so it is important that you answer each question carefully. In addition to standard multiple choice, the broker exam contains scenario-based questions with more than 4 possible answers to choose from.
For an example of what this looks like, refer to page 8 of the Montana Candidate Handbook. You must achieve a score of at least 75% to pass. You will have 3 ½ hours to complete the exam.
