Licensure Requirements for a Salesperson
- Minimum age of 18
- Must complete a 75-hour pre-license course
- Pass the salesperson exam
- Must become affiliated with a licensed broker in New York
Licensure Requirements for a Broker
- Minimum age of 20
- Must have spent at least 2 years as a licensed salesperson, or at least 3 years in the general field of real estate
- Must complete a 45-hour broker pre-license course
- Pass the broker exam
Step by Step Guide (Salesperson)
- Create an account on eAccessNY (This is where you will be able to schedule your exam, view exam results, and apply for a license once you pass)
- Complete the 75-hour pre-license course through an Approved School
- Pass the salesperson exam (See below for more information)
- Apply for license within 2 years of passing the exam

- If you have not already done so, create an account on eAccessNY (This is where you will be able to schedule your exam, view exam results, and apply for a license once you pass)
- Complete the 45-hour broker pre-license course through an Approved School
- Pass the broker exam (See below for more information)
- Apply for License within 2 years of passing the exam
Obtaining a reciprocal license if you are already licensed in another state:
New York has reciprocity with several states. Refer to the Division of Licensing Services website to find out if you qualify.
Exam Info
Salesperson: The written exam costs $15 and is administered in multiple choice format. You will have 1 ½ hours to complete the exam. For more details and exam site policies, refer to the Salesperson Exams page on the Division of Licensing Services website.
Broker: The written exam costs $15 and is administered in multiple choice format. You will have 2 ½ hours to complete the exam. For more details and exam site policies, refer to the Broker Exams page on the Division of Licensing Services website.
